Complete gasification unit construction contract for Leroux & Lotz Technologies
LEROUX & LOTZ Technologies signed the contract for a complete gasification unit for ESKA Graphic Board.
A sustainable industrial project
Signed on February 6th, the construction contract covers design, construction, and commissioning of a gasifier on the Eska Graphic Board paper mill site in Hoogezand, Netherlands.
The facility is expected to start operation in the second half of 2016.
Eska Graphic Board is a world leader in the market for luxury graphic board. It uses 100% recycled paper to produce over 250,000 tonnes of graphic board in its two state-of-the-art plants in Hoogezand and Sappemeer (NL). Eska graphic board is sold to over 90 countries around the world.
Through on-site recovery of waste paper residues, the Leroux & Lotz Technologies gasification solution will save each year 18 million cubic metres of LNG, which amounts to the average annual consumption of 11,000 Dutch families. The construction of the gasification unit is an important step towards optimizing the energy-efficiency of the paper mill. It represents significant progress towards the goal of halving the energy consumption of the paper and board manufacturing sector by 2020 and reducing CO2 emissions.
From 25,000 to 28,000 tonnes of residue will be recovered every year through the gasification unit and will ensure process steam supply to the Eska Graphic Board paper mill.
Environmentally-friendly cutting-edge technology
The Leroux & Lotz Technologies turnkey gasification solution integrates a full boiler island (gasifier, recovery boiler, flue gas treatment system) as well as fuel storage and preparation. Leroux & Lotz Technologies also supplies the instrumentation and control systems to ensure the precise steering of the facility.
The Leroux & Lotz Technologies gasification system benefits from over 30 years of experience, from laboratory scale to operating industrial facilities. Its circulating fluidised bed system is air-fuelled and at atmospheric pressure: it is ideally designed for energy recovery of complex solid fuels (such as RDF and SRF) for thermal input over 5 MWth.
Leroux & Lotz Technologies puts great attention to the environmental footprint of the facility and to be in full compliance with environmental standards: the boiler and air pollution control systems have been specially designed to minimize atmospheric emissions.
A strategic order for Leroux & Lotz Technologies
According to Patrick Blanc, Managing Director at Leroux & Lotz Technologies Heat & Power, the Eska Graphic Board contract is a strategic order: “This first reference for our complete gasification system in the paper industry is a remarkable opportunity for the development of sustainable energy generation solutions on industrial sites. Leroux & Lotz Technologies took an additional step towards the commercial rollout of this waste and industrial residues thermal recovery technology.”
